Album #13 - Spring/Summer 2007

Spring and the black flies have arrived at last! Gardening currently requires one hand held over the mouth and nose to keep the black flies out while the other hand operates the hoe or watering can. Besides the arrival of the gardening weather, the running weather is back. Jen and I completed our second half-marathon last week, and Meghan completed her first race ever! Jen and I probably could have run in better time than we did, but we spent the first 17km deep in conversation, catching up as siblings should! Thanks Jen.

Our first canoe trip was a new route for us on the Mattawa River, just outside of North Bay. We were guided by Dawn and Scott, and they brought along their dog, Emily, much to Kennedy's delight. The weather couldn't have been nicer, with only a couple of short showers, and somehow we managed to avoid getting sunburns, despite the hours spent lounging in the heat!

The next trip of the summer was a 3 day trip into Algonquin Park. Kelly, our fearless Australian leader, wasn't shy about choosing a route with LOTS of portaging! My shoulders were barely up to the challenge, but we were able to enjoy a section of the Park we had never been to before. The third canoe trip of the summer was the annual French River trip, accompanied this year by Vince and Margo, Frank Le (a long-lost friend from University), Kevin, and ourselves. Great weather, if only our judgement had been better.... but the canoe has been repaired and we'll never speak of that again!

We found time between canoe trips to fly out to the West Coast and spend a couple of weeks with Justin and Lisa Tilson, having missed their wedding earlier in the year. It was fantastic to spend some quality time with the two of them and renew our friendship. Thanks for your wonderful hospitality, Tilsons!
